Structured Data

10% weight

Learn how GEOAudit analyzes structured data (JSON-LD, Schema.org) for AI agent discoverability. Scoring methodology, checks, and optimization tips.

What We Check

GEOAudit analyzes your page's JSON-LD structured data including Schema.org types like Organization, WebSite, Article, Product, FAQ, BreadcrumbList, and HowTo. We check for the presence and completeness of critical schemas, proper nesting of entities, required properties for each schema type, speakable markup for voice-AI readiness, and overall schema validity. Each schema is validated against Schema.org specifications to ensure AI agents can correctly parse your structured data.

How We Score

Each structured data check results in pass (full score), warn (half score), or fail (zero). Structured Data carries a 10% weight in the overall GEOAudit score — the highest of all 15 categories. Checks include: JSON-LD presence, Organization schema, WebSite schema, page-specific schema (Article, Product, etc.), BreadcrumbList, FAQ schema, speakable markup, and schema completeness. All checks contribute equally within this category.

Why It Matters

Structured data is the #1 way AI agents understand your content. JSON-LD schemas tell search engines and AI systems exactly what your page is about, enabling rich results, knowledge graph entries, and direct AI citations. Pages with proper structured data are 3–5x more likely to be cited by AI assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview. Without it, AI systems must guess from unstructured text, often leading to misinterpretation or exclusion.

How to Improve

Add JSON-LD blocks with at minimum Organization, WebSite, and page-specific schemas (Article for blog posts, Product for product pages, FAQ for help pages). Use Google's Rich Results Test and Schema Markup Validator to validate. Ensure all required properties are filled with real content, not placeholders. Add BreadcrumbList for navigation context and speakable markup for voice-AI compatibility. Keep schemas up to date when content changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of structured data does GEOAudit check?

We check for JSON-LD Schema.org types including Organization, WebSite, Article, Product, FAQ, BreadcrumbList, HowTo, and more. We also validate schema completeness and required properties for each type.

Why is structured data the highest weighted category?

Structured data directly tells AI agents what your content is about in a machine-readable format. Without it, AI systems must guess from unstructured text. With proper schema, you're 3–5x more likely to be cited by AI assistants.

Do I need all schema types to get a good score?

No — you need the relevant schemas for your page type. A blog post needs Article schema, a product page needs Product schema. Organization and WebSite schemas should be on every page as a baseline.

How does structured data affect AI search results?

AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview use structured data to understand entities, relationships, and facts. Pages with proper schema are more likely to be sourced and cited in AI-generated responses.
